End of Life Services

Elegant to the end

Providing expert engineering to ensure you get the most out of your WindFloat® units

While 25+ years seems like a long time away, the best moment for the project sponsor to start thinking about end of life is at the design phase. A proactive approach ensures that data is collected, processed, and managed in a way that allows a robust assessment of the condition of the platform and wind turbine and can yield numerous value opportunities throughout the lifecycle.

Proactive approach to unlock value

Principle Power offers Life Extension services to assess platform condition and make recommendations for how to safely optimize the asset, including the extension of operations beyond the initial design lifetime.

As designers and operators of WindFloat® units, Principle Power is uniquely qualified to provide a close to real-time view of the asset operating conditions and behavior which allows project sponsors to proactively make informed decisions relative to the asset design life.

Life Extension

We develop Life Extension plans that incorporate various assessments of the operational conditions encountered by the platform during its lifetime. This data is established through environmental and sensor data, as well as periodic inspections. The data is compared to the assumptions made during the design process to generate a comprehensive picture of asset integrity.

The Life Extension study uses the operational dataset and numerical tools to develop recommendations for how best to control risks over time, including, among others:

  • changes in the operational mode
  • more frequent inspections
  • repairs (e.g., corrosion protection)

A cost-benefit analysis is included to support decision-making.

Decommissioning

Principle Power’s engineering capabilities, extensive track record in the design of the WindFloat® platform, and experience operating, disconnecting, and decommissioning the WindFloat 1 in Portugal (2011-2016) put the company in the leading position to execute all engineering activities related to a WindFloat® decommissioning project.

Principle Power offers the following services for decommissioning:

  • Disconnection analysis
  • Ballasting configuration analysis
  • Towing analysis
  • Berthing analysis
  • Grounding analysis
  • Cost engineering

We are also able to act as customer representatives to supervise decommissioning operations.
