WindFloat®’s stabilized semi-submersible architecture has been proven in operations since the first deployment in 2011, withstanding challenging weather conditions while ensuring excellent availability and power output.
The WindFloat® portfolio has evolved into four design products to address industry needs and provide customers reliable, de-risked and cost-efficient solutions for their projects. WindFloat® solutions have been optimized with the same validated engineering models to maintain exceptional performance in various metocean conditions.
The technology incorporates proprietary performance-enhancing features such as a smart hull trim system for maximum performance. Additionally, all designs have reduced structural weight and simplified logistics during installation and operation, ensuring deliverability for large scale manufacturing and deployment.
WindFloat TC
WindFloat FC
The modular design configurations WindFloat FC (flat-panel, center column) and WindFloat TC (tubular, center column) are the latest additions to the WindFloat® portfolio. A natural evolution with center column designs, these solutions benefit from Principle Power’s 13-year operational track-record to meet the industry's need for standardized 15MW+ turbines.
WindFloat T
The proven WindFloat T, now in its 4th generation, has been recognized for its three-column semi-submersible tubular design with Water Entrapment Plates (WEP) for optimal performance. With unparallel operational track record, spanning more than a decade of operational experience, the design is more modular than ever before, optimized to enable faster delivery with maximum automation of subcomponent fabrication activities.
WindFloat T
WindFloat F
The patented WindFloat F is a flat-panel, pontoon-based solution which leverages on the 4th generation heritage - including the proven 3-column architecture and improved smart hull trim system - with established flat panel construction methods.
Designed for ultra-shallow wind turbine integration in ports as shallow as 9 meters, WindFloat F offer additional buoyancy with pontoons minimizing column diameter and footprint.
WindFloat F
Freedom to choose the best wind turbine for the project, balancing cost and performance: the WindFloat® can host any conventional commercial wind turbine with only software modifications and site-specific tower.
The Smart Hull Trim System has demonstrated WindFloat®’s excellent motion performance regardless of the turbine and site conditions, with Gross Annual Energy Production (AEP) gains between 1.0-2.5% across our global project portfolio. The system learns from real-world operational experience for continuous improvement over the course of the 25+ year project lifetime.
The modular design of WindFloat® products allows fabrication by a variety of local and global companies, enabling industrialized supply chains that strike the right balance between local content, cost, and schedule.
Adjustable passive ballast system allows wind turbine installation and large correctives to be performed at port with conventional land-based cranes. This removes the need for any offshore heavy lifting, increasing personnel safety and vastly reducing cost and weather risk.
WindFloat® products are inherently stable and towed to site by an offshore tug, where they can be connected to the preinstalled mooring system in less than one day.
WindFloat® technology can be deployed in waters from 40 m to well over 1,000 m deep, using conventional mooring components that are commodity-priced, readily available worldwide, and adaptable to many different site conditions.
WindFloat® units use the patented inter-array cable "I-tube" connector for easy connection to the grid. The “I-tube” allows for a unit to be disconnected and removed from the grid for maintenance while power flows uninterrupted between the remaining units.
Floating offshore wind is the most scalable renewable energy with the least environmental impact. Floating offshore wind is key to meeting global decarbonization goals.
WindFloat® technology delivers optimal motion performance for increased power production and revenue generation.
From local expertise to global delivery capacity: modular design enables project sponsors to strike the best balance.
WindFloat® products are fully assembled at port and simply towed to the deployment site, completely removing the need for heavy lifts offshore.
Robust, fully redundant design and excellent accessibility with standard offshore wind vessels maximizes uptime.
Patented inter-array cable "I-tube" connector revolutionizes floating wind farm design and maintenance.
Floating offshore wind development revitalizes coastal economies, enabling the supply chain and creating long-lasting jobs.
The WindFloat® portfolio is designed to have minimum environmental impact, from fabrication to end-of-life decommissioning.
Trusted by developers who have selected WindFloat® for their projects, Principle Power’s solutions portfolio is unlocking offshore wind potential worldwide and allowing projects to harvest the best wind resources. With 105 MW now in operation or in advanced development, and with an additional 14 GW commercial pipeline, Principle Power is on our way to achieving our vision of a planet powered by floating offshore wind.
We use our experience and IP to anticipate the industry’s needs, to continuously improve technology and bring innovative new products to the market, and to create customized solutions for our clients based on our proprietary technologies.
